This June, RHM are thrilled to be celebrating our 30th year in business. A lot has changed in the telecoms industry since 1992. We wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on the history of our business and celebrate some of the advancements we’ve made.
RHM was founded in 1992 by two Gloucester natives in response to the liberalisation of the UK’s telecom market. This allowed for independent suppliers to help businesses in areas where BT was letting them down. RHM’s founders seized this opportunity and created the business you know today. These two entrepreneurs are still the business’s majority shareholders today. Our Billing Manager, Andy Heaney is the only member of staff who has been with us for the full 30 years!
We’re strongly independent here at RHM. While many others in the industry have consolidated or been taken over by venture capital, we’ve always been privately owned. This has meant that we’ve always been able to offer our customers the technology that’s right for them, not the ones that will see investors make the biggest markup. This ethos has seen us retain a fantastic base of customers from around the UK, many of whom have been with us since the 1990s!
In 2004 our current executive board were put into place, which has seen the business go from strength to strength. One of our directors, Roger Head, was High Sheriff of Gloucestershire between 2015 and 2016 and received an OBE during the 2016 New Year’s Honours List for his charity work.
In 2022 we’ve hit our 30th anniversary! We’re now proud to say we’ve supported 700 total clients across the entire UK. Our cloud communication platform now hosts over 3,600 users and we’ve installed 1,600 different broadband connections.
A lot has happened in the past 30 years in the telecoms sector, but RHM has always risen to the challenge and adapted with the times. We’ve moved from on-premise systems on analogue and then ISDN lines, up to IP systems and SIP Trunks. Now cloud telephony is our main service, and this looks set to support businesses for decades to come.
Our suppliers have remained one constant throughout RHM’s history. We’ve worked with Ericsson-LG since 1992. We’re happy to have stayed loyal to ELG as they’ve helped us support many customers, some of whom are now on their 5th generation of LG solution.
We’ve shown our resilience and adaptability, and have the awards to show for it. Over the past few years we’ve been:
• Comms Business finalist for Mid-market solution of the year
• Gamma Platinum Partner one of only 32 out of 1500+ partners
• LG best dealer of the year
• Zen Internet award for growth
Throughout our 30-year history we’ve always tried to make a difference in our community. As a proud Gloucestershire business, we don’t just support local businesses with their technology, we support great local causes as well.
The Pied Piper Appeal do fantastic work in Gloucestershire. They make a meaningful difference supporting sick and disabled children across the county. They do this by funding local hospital care, specialist schools and mental health facilities. One of the best services they do is to send children with life-limiting illnesses and their families on holidays where they can make lasting memories.
RHM and Pied Piper have a Chair in common, Roger Head OBE. The charity was also founded in 1992 and RHM are undertaking fundraising efforts to celebrate.
We’re also proud new members of the Gloucester Rugby Business Club. This club doesn’t just host events to support the efforts of the Cherry & Whites, but also does great work to support local causes as well.
